Food To Avoid With Arthritis - To Eat Or Not To Eat...
Knowing which food to avoid with arthritis is integral to a successful treatment. Characteristic feature of arthritis is a simultaneous presence of deficiencies and excess in the body. Deficiency of organic minerals, and excess of inorganic minerals as well as an excess of metabolic waste the body is not able to eliminate.
The food to avoid with arthritis then are calcium inhibitors: meat, diary products, concentrated carbohydrates, sugar, stimulants such as coffee. Flour and refined sugar are probably the worst evil of them all. Elimination of all white breads, cakes, donuts, ice-cream results in much quicker recovery. Excess animal protein in the diet leads to leaching calcium out of the body. It also leaves behind a lot of waste products, contributing to what is called “dampness”, accumulation of thick, sticky fluid waste. Dampness in turn inhibits circulation of blood and energy. Another calcium inhibitor are animal fats, abundant in dairy products (up to over 45%), which should be avoided. One of the biggest myths we were brought up with is that dairy products are good for you because they contains a lot of calcium. After all the processing and heating, that calcium is not bio-available to the body, and as such it only contributes to the toxic waste. Also, because of its high casein content, cow’s milk is extremely mucus forming so even for that single reason it should be avoided. There are much better sources of calcium than milk (with the exception of raw goat’s milk). Cooked foods containing oxalic acid should be avoided, too – spinach, rhubarb, Swiss chard, French sorrel, beet greens, turnip. Oxalic acid in its organic form is essential for the health, it’s only when it is changed into inorganic by means of cooking and other processing that it becomes destructive. Oxalic acid readily binds with calcium and in its raw, organic form it helps in calcium assimilation but in its inorganic state it often accumulates in the kidneys forming ‘kidney stones’. Nightshade family vegetables such as tomatoes, potatoes and eggplant can cause problems in arthritis, too, so they are best be avoided.
