Healthy Eating Guidelines
There are general healthy eating guidelines for everybody, but as we all differ in constitution, those guidelines need to be adjusted somewhat according to the individual body’s requirements. “One man’s meat can be another man’s poison…”
So what is healthy eating? It is providing the body with everything it needs to cleanse, nourish, sustain and repair. That includes the type of food we eat, the way the food is prepared and the way it is consumed. Here are some facts about healthy eating, which are an absolute must when talking about healthy eating guidelines yet so often disregarded:
• Everything we eat needs to be of highest quality. Fresh, organic whenever possible, freshly prepared and consumed. And most importantly, live: plenty of vegetables and fruits. Fresh foods contain the best life sustaining energy (qi) – live enzymes. • Leave the table with the stomach 3/4 full. Excess food does not digest properly leaving behind a waste that is toxic to the body. • Choose as few ingredients in one meal as possible. Especially don’t combine carbohydrates with protein in the same meal. Digestion of proteins requires acidic enzymes while the carbohydrates alkaline. This incompatible combination of digestive enzymes neutralize each other making the digestion less effective. Partly undigested foods putrefy creating toxic environment in the colon. • Don’t eat while you’re upset, angry or anxious. The energies necessary for digestion are channeled into the liver instead of the stomach and spleen/pancreas, making the digestion difficult and incomplete. • Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, dinner like a pauper. This old saying has an actual scientific backing: the digestive system is at its strongest between 7 – 11 am. At that time it can handle foods that are heavier and more nourishing, and it’s an ideal time for carbohydrate meal. As the day progresses the digestive system is getting weaker as the whole body is getting ready for rest. That’s why later in the day the meals should be lighter and smaller.

• Make sure you enjoy the meal. Presentation of food, color and texture is as important as nutrients. The enjoyment helps pacify the liver and therefore helps the digestive processes. It also makes one feel satisfied with less food.
