Prostate Herbs - The Nature's Gift To Men
Nature provided prostate herbs in abundance yet we tend to ignore that fact in favor of man-made chemicals. I’m not disregarding the use of man-made pharmaceuticals, there are countless examples of saved lives thanks to them. What is concerning though, is that more studies have been done on how to create a pill which can be patented and sold for billions of dollars of profit instead of looking at available resources we have in the form of natural, cheap, safe and side effect free herbs and foods. These cannot be patented. Popping a pill is an easy way out but it’s not working. Taking the responsibility for our health back from those who’d like us to believe that taking a pill is the answer to our ailments is much more empowering and beneficial.
There are studies done on some prostate herbs, like Saw palmetto (Serenoa repens), that it inhibits 5 alpha-reductase, enzyme playing vital role in prostate swelling. Saw palmetto gained the popularity as one of the best prostate herbs because of these studies, but by no means is it the only herb having such or similar properties. Other herbs used for prostate disease include Pygeum (pygeum africanum), Willow herb (epilobium parviflorum), Black cohosh Nettle (urtica dioica), then there are phytoestrogens found in foods that protect against prostate cancer (and other cancers), antioxidants and other nutrients, and there are still many other herbs that lead to prostate health indirectly by treating those aspects that
contribute to the development of the prostate problems.
Consistent with the Chinese medicine doctrine, specific formulations follow the patient’s actual syndrome. For prostate problems, herbal treatments include Vacarria (wang bu liu xing) and Plantago seeds (che qian zi), which are particularly effective in the conditions due to damp heat. For benign prostatic hyperplasia, herbal treatment includes Plantago seed and Rehmannia. Interestingly, scientists have discovered that these remedies contain iridoid glycosides, a group of natural compounds which has been shown to reduce prolactin levels. High prolactin levels are thought to contribute to prostate problems in men. Once again science is proving the wisdom of century old natural medicine. In countries like Japan and China, herbal formulas used to treat enlarged prostate include herbs to nourish and strengthen blood, qi, yin and yang in the body (in Western terms - overall boosting all elements in the body necessary for strong immunity) like Rehmannia, Astragalus, Codonopsis, Cuscuta and Ligusticum, herbs to improve circulation like Salvia and herbs to drain the accumulation of fluids such as Plantago. In Japan the swollen prostate (the deficient type of enlarged prostate) is treated with a popular formula Ba Wei Di Huang Wan. Coincidentally it is also used for the problems due to aging. It is usually adjusted according to the symptoms present with other herbs added if the acute condition is also there. Vacarria is used to treat painful swelling of testicles by moving energies and blood in the area, and plantago to treat painful, burning urination by promoting urination to drain dampness (accumulated fluids) and heat from the area. Everybody is different and each condition has its eb and flow, therefore the formulas are always designed in accordance to the individual condition at the time. Some patients need to take the medication for a few months, for some it's enough to take it from time to time. Given the right condition and supplying the right nutrients, our bodies are designed to heal themselves. Have you forgotten to look after yourself to the point that your body is refusing to function in a normal healthy way? More… coming soon
